Juneteenth Presentation by Judy
This Sunday, June 19, at 10AM there will be an ENGAGE presentation that will highlight the history of Juneteenth. The holiday was first celebrated in Texas, where on that date in 1865, in the aftermath of the Civil War, slaves were declared free under the terms of the 1862 Emancipation Proclamation. Commemorations of this new federal holiday have been celebrated dating back generations. How can we participate in future years and what does it mean to be an ally for the black & brown community?
After the Juneteenth presentation, we will transition to preparing posters for the upcoming Pride Rally in Ripon. All materials will be provided. The Pride Rally will take place on June 25 at 5 p.m. on Rotary Square downtown Ripon.
